Dear Client,
I am your therapist. I know what you are thinking… “How can she possibly help me?”…”Has she been through this?”… “I’ve been to therapy before”. I’m here to tell you I can’t. The only person that can help you is you. I can’t change your thinking patterns. I can’t make you show up for yourself. I can’t make you write in your journal. I can’t make you go to support groups. I can’t make you engage in healthier habits.
I’m here to be a platform. A platform for you to navigate the nasty storms that life brings. I’m here to guide you in making good life choices for yourself. I’m here to listen when you feel like you’ve exhausted your options. I’m here to LOVE YOU when you can’t love yourself. I’m here to teach you things that help you save yourself. I’m here to give you hope and perspective. Most importantly, I’m here to give you a human connection. I’m here to let you know that you can, when your whole life (or at least part of it) you thought,“I can’t”. I’m here to point out how able you actually are.
I believe if I continuously show up for you and with you, you will begin showing up for yourself. I will not work harder than you, and that’s hard to understand, but again, it’s not about how hard I work, it’s about how hard YOU do, but every ounce you put in to your recovery, I will match.
I know you are curious about me, and who I am. Most people are who sit in that chair. I respect you not asking. It puts me in an odd place, I’m bound to non-disclosure so if I do share those things, I can’t show up for you. I can tell you that I go home, worry about you and your hardships… until I surrender that journey back to you. I work daily to navigate my own life, which is also stormy at times. I wake up and continue to show up for you, because I believe in you.
Lastly, when the light at the end of the tunnel is finally approaching, and the positive things begin to happen, and you begin to transform into the amazing human you are meant to be…please do not give me credit. I didn’t do the work, you did. Be proud of yourself, own it, and remind yourself that YOU showed up.
Sincerely,
Your Therapist
